Magic Dirt is one of Australia's most acclaimed wines and the pinnacle of the Smidge Wines range. Its name reflects one of the secrets of great wine making - the quality that the terroir brings to the wine. Each vintage is inspired by the sub regional terroir of South Australia's wine regions with all vineyards selected trellised with a single cordon, single catch wire and planted with the clone 1654. Magic Dirt wines represent the skill of master winemaker Matt Wenk with every vintages consistently receiving gold reviews from the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion.
Quantities are extremely limited and are highly sought after by those who savour quality wine.
|Stonewell, Barossa Valley
|Fermented in a small open top vessel, fermentation lasted 8 days with total time on skins was 14 days before being drained and pressed. The free run and pressings were blended and then the component earmarked for this wine was matured in 2 year old french barrique for 19 months. The wine was then fined lightly and bottled without filtration. Matured in bottle for 24 months before release.
|Black core with magenta rim.
|Very perfumed with red, black and purple fruits, spice, lavender, vanilla, cedar and char.
|Quite a mouthful of bold flavour. Dense red fruits with fresh lively anise, chocolate and earthy notes. The soft tannins are long and balanced allowing the wine to finish even and restrained.
